Jacob Ryan Banas

Jacob Ryan Banas, age 41, passed away Monday February 12, 2024, at his home in Marion, IL. He is survived by his wife, Lerin Banas and daughter, Emerson Banas, mother, Cindy (John) Thomas, father, Brian (Vergie) Banas, sister, Kendra (Dereck) King with nephews Elijah and Asher, mother-in-law Renee Shoot, brother-in-law Ty (Amanda) Shoot with nephews Emmett and Carter along with friends close enough to be considered family. 

Jacob married his high school sweetheart and love of his life in 2009. They shared 25 years of life and love together. Jacob’s world revolved around his family. He was a wonderful doting father and loved Emerson wholeheartedly. Jacob had a kind and caring soul and always helped others. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to make others laugh.

Jacob had an interest in all things automotive and enjoyed working on his cars and attending car shows. He graduated from John A. Logan College with a degree specializing in auto collision technology after attending Goreville High School. His career was with State Farm Auto Insurance. At home he was currently working on a 1949 GMC K3500 series truck. He also had a talent for woodworking, making several pieces for family. Additionally, he was a longtime fan and supporter of the Penn State Nittany Lions. 

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Stanley and Eleanor Banas, maternal grandparents, John and Barbara Becker, father-in-law, John Shoot, and his special dog, Duke. When Jacob was young, he greatly admired and worked closely with his Grandpa Becker on his cattle farm.

Jacob was, and is, deeply loved by many and will be dearly missed.  Should friends desire, contributions may be made to Binkley Ross Funeral Home for the college fund of Emerson Banas.

A service to honor the life of Jacob will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at White Pines Event Center located at 13115 Talley Town Street, Carterville, Illinois 62918. Online condolences may be directed to binkleyross.com.
